Community Solar Gardens are built and operated by developers who work with your local utility provider. Together under this state-regulated program your community can now enjoy the benefits and savings of community solar!

Qualified members of your community can subscribe to the farms.

The solar energy produced by your subscribed allocation of the solar farm goes to the local power grid.

Solar credits for the same solar energy produced are automatically applied to your utility bill.

You'll receive two bills, one from your utility for your electricity service with solar credits applied, and the other from us for your solar farm subscription.

  • Program Requirements
  • Solar Supply and Subscriber Requirements
  • Community Solar Rate

A subscriber to the New York Community Distributed Generation (CDG) program must be an Orange & Rockland Utilities electric retail customer in New York. The premise for which a customer intends to receive a bill credit must be in Orange & Rocklands Utilities service area.

The community solar garden allotted allocation is based on a first come, first served basis. Once the program is fully subscribed, any customer who wishes to join will be placed on a waiting list and will be among the first notified by Onesta Solar once their desired portion of kWs is available.

  1. A subscriber must be an electric retail customer of Orange & Rockland Utilities
  2. Subscribers will be provided a monthly credit on their bill. The credit will based on each customers’ allocation of the community solar project.

There is no up-front cost to customers. Customers will be billed each month after Orange & Rockland Utilities has posted the credit to your electric bill. It will show up as a “dollar credit” towards your bill.

The value of a customer’s bill credits will change as Orange & Rockland Utilities rates change – but every customer will always receive a $0.01 discount to Orange & Rockland current credit rate! For example, if the value of the credit per kWh is $0.15, the customer will only pay $0.14, always getting a discount, every month.
